Maxims Guest House in Tzaneen operates primarily as a restaurant with a casual, inviting atmosphere that feels more like a gathering spot for locals and travelers who appreciate unpretentious dining. Situated along the R36 in Georges Valley, this place doesn't present itself as a polished urban eatery; its surroundings can feel a bit rugged, especially after rain when mud paths become necessary. Despite this, the warmth of the staff and the overall welcoming vibe make up for the rough edges.

This is a spot where the focus is clearly on straightforward, satisfying meals rather than fine dining. While its pizza reputation stands out, particularly for thin bases and generous toppings, the portions at any time of day, including breakfast, are substantial enough to keep you full and comfortable. The kitchen moves quickly, which suits people stopping by for a casual bite without a long wait. The friendly servers keep the mood relaxed, whether you’re dining solo, with family, or in a group.

Maxims offers a variety of ways to enjoy your time here beyond just the food. The outdoor deck by the pool creates a calm setting for those who appreciate some fresh air and views with their meal. It’s also clear that the restaurant doubles as a social space—locals come to braai, hang out, or even settle in for a study session, highlighting its role as more than just a meal stop but a comfortable, easygoing hub within the area.

Visitors who appreciate a no-frills dining experience with attentive service and a communal feel will find Maxims Guest House a good match. It's especially appealing on sunny days when you can enjoy the breeze outdoors, and for families or groups looking for ample, hearty portions. Though it's not refined or fancy, it’s grounded in a local rhythm that values good food served with friendliness and a sense of place.

Although it looks like a building site and if it rains you have to find a path through the mud,it was worth the while. Service was great with friendly staff. The pizza was excellent and the breakfast was a huge portion. Definitely value for money. I will be back

The BEST pizza you will ever have!! nothing even comes close. Friendly staff are quick to help you, and the wait for the food is very short. Their guest house is also stunning and reasonably priced. Definitely worth a visit when your in the neighborhood!

At first glance this place didn't strike me as your typical restaurant and it isn't, but the service is great, the food is great and there is a seat with a nice view from the deck by the pool. This is also definitely the best pizza I've had in Tzaneen. Their base is super thin, which is awesome, and they are quite generous with their toppings. So far I've been pleasantly surprised.

We have had an excellent stay at Maxim's guest house and restaurant. We stopped here only for dinner (we highly recommend the pasta or pizza with thin base. The Perfeto pizza was superb). But there was such a good vibe, we decided to spent the night as well (we were passing through to Kruger). The owner is a wonderful bloke. He was very helpful to us, thanks for everything!!
